If 85% of Videos Are Initially Viewed in Silent Mode – How Do You Get Your Videos Played?
Around 85% of all videos are initially viewed in silent mode – no doubt because people are watching at work and don’t want to draw attention to the fact that they are watching videos instead of working!
That said, savvy marketeers and advertisers have struggled with different ways to capture people’s attention. How do you get people to actually click “PLAY?”
One big breakthrough came from adding scrolling text over the video as it played in silent mode…marketers have discovered that there is a higher likelihood that the video WILL BE PLAYED if the text describing the subject matter is interesting.
Up until now this would have required: extracting the audio from the video, having it transcribed and then using video editing software, adding that text over the video and THEN trying to sync it.
YIKES … talk about time consuming. Apple recently released a FREE app called CLIPS and it does all of the above with one simple press of a button!
Yes, it actually is that simple to use. You’ll see for yourself in the video tutorial I put together for you. Unfortunately, there is only an Apple app at the moment that does this (nothing for Android users yet) ๐
The other downside is you can only shoot your video in portrait mode – meaning holding your iPhone/iPad vertically. My guess is that there will be an upgrade soon for full HD, based on popularity. It’s still a great free app.
So here’s what you need to do now to make your videos stand out:
- Watch the tutorial video.
- Download the app.
- Give it a try – it really is easy to use.
You’re probably asking, well how the heck would I use this app? What sort of videos would I do with text?
Good question!
My suggestion would be short clips to promote upcoming events: open houses, community events, and short teaser clips directing people to watch your full length productions. That said, just use your imagination and give it a try. You’ll be surprised at what you come up with.
Be sure to share your results with us here on the blog!
