As the year winds down and many of us reflect on what we’re grateful for, I find myself overwhelmed with a deep sense of thankfulness. I have a wonderful wife, a beautiful son, a happy home, and a fulfilling career. This holiday season is particularly special—we’ll be spending it with my grandparents, who are in their 90s. Every moment we share with them creates more treasured memories. I truly feel blessed.
Yet, beyond my family, there’s something else I’m profoundly grateful for: you. Each and every agent whose life I’ve touched and who has, in turn, impacted mine. My videos on YouTube have been viewed over 2.5 million times, and I often imagine my voice playing in the background during a car ride, late at night, or as someone unwinds at their dining room table. We may not have met in person, but we’ve connected on a meaningful level. And that connection means everything to me.
Finding Connection in Isolation
During the pandemic, I began creating videos regularly—a time when my mental health wasn’t at its best. Before the world shifted, I was a team manager with Redfin, interacting with people daily and driving over 80,000 miles a year. Suddenly, my world shrank to a 200-mile radius, confined to my home office. I threw myself into creating content—videos, podcasts, anything to fill the silence.
That’s when I started hosting online webinars and livestreams. The technology was challenging at first, and managing chats while keeping a smooth flow was no easy feat. But those livestreams became a lifeline. Even with just a handful of attendees, we laughed, shared stories, and found comfort in connection. Those moments may have seemed small, but they were powerful. They reminded me that even in isolation, we could build a community.
Actionable Tip: Build Your Digital Connections
Think about the first conversations you had with people in your network or community. Take a moment to revisit those early messages. Something I like to do is screenshot the beginning of the interaction and share it with them, along with a simple note: “I can’t believe it’s been this long! I’m grateful for our connection.” It’s a small gesture, but it rekindles relationships and reminds others of your journey together.
The Power of Authentic Relationships
I’m also grateful for the incredible coaches, mentors, and educators I’ve met throughout my career, including those here at the Agent Inner Circle. Their influence on me is immeasurable. Every person we meet leaves an impression, shaping us in ways we often don’t realize. Relationships are everything in this industry.
For new agents, here’s a key insight: genuine connection builds success. Take time this season to think about the people in your life who’ve supported you. Reach out with a heartfelt message of gratitude. My favorite question to ask is, “What have you been up to, and is there anything I can do to support or promote your work?” Authentic connection starts with genuine interest. It’s not about announcing, “I’m in real estate now!” It’s about showing up for others.
Actionable Tip: Spark Meaningful Conversations
When you’re gathered around the Thanksgiving table or catching up with friends, focus on them. Ask about their lives, their work, and their passions. Not only does this deepen your relationships, but it also naturally opens the door for them to ask about you. Authenticity resonates, and people remember who genuinely cares.
A Season of Gratitude
This holiday season, reflect on the people you’re grateful for. Take a moment to thank them. Let them know you’re there for them. These connections aren’t just for today—they’re the foundation that will support you when the road gets tough. In real estate, as in life, your community makes all the difference.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you and your family an amazing holiday season.
